The final phase of the Pacific war during World War II saw a terrible
new tactic: massed kamikaze attacks on American ships by Japanese
planes. But the biggest kamikaze attack of all was the suicidal
mission of the super battleship Yamato, the largest, most advanced
warship of the day. In "Sinking the Supership," NOVA joins an
international team exploring the grave of this magnificent vessel to
learn the secrets of her design, her final mission, and the violent
events that brought her down.
Here's what you'll find on the companion Web site:
Behind the Scenes

For executive producer Keiko Bang, who is half Japanese, half
American, making this film was deeply cathartic.

Fifty years later, two Japanese sailors offer eyewitness accounts

Tom Magliozzi has a problem. The wacky co-host of NPR's Car Talk
needs to replace his beloved 1952 MG roadster. But in today's car
market, where should he turn? Is new technology about to transform
the way we drive? Tom and his brother Ray hit the road in NOVA's "Car
of the Future" for a lighthearted but shrewd take on America's
four-wheeled future. Join them as they mix their trademark slapstick
with serious nuts-and-bolts analysis of what it will take to make our
autos more energy-efficient.

Hello Educators,
In next week's airing of "Car of the Future," NOVA follows NPR Car Talk hosts Tom and Ray Magliozzi as they hit the road to examine options for cleaner, more energy-efficient vehicles. (Subjects covered: physics, energy, technology/engineering)
NOVA is launching its first ever open content Web site with this program. The site contains more than 200 one- to three-minute video clips shot during the making of the film that you and your students can download and use to make your own videos.
A Teachers section will provide you with tips for how to use these clips, ways to help your students create their videos, and ideas for incorporating these clips into your curriculum. Find the open content site at
http://www.pbs.org/nova/car/open <http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/ecard/350705-car/redir/wgbh/nova/car/open/>
We've also set up a PBS Educators' Forum discussion board for this program. We hope you'll visit the board after the program airs to talk with other educators about the show's topics, share discussion themes and activity ideas, and recommend relevant resources. Find the board at:
